THREAD VEINS?
Thread veins, also known as red veins or spider veins are a common problem troubling many women. They are unsightly and can cause discomfort, especially in the legs.
WHAT CAUSES THREAD VEINS?
The causes of these unsightly veins are unknown – sometimes they run in families but old injuries may play a part as may long periods of sitting or standing. As more women than men develop this condition, hormones such as the pill and hormone replacement therapy probably play a role.
HOW MAY THEY BE TREATED?
Sclerotherapy is a technique which has been firmly established in America and Europe for many years. A small amount of Sclerovein, a prescription medication is injected into the vein. This causes the wall of the vein to stick together, empty of blood and ultimately disappear.
IS THE PROCEDURE PAINFUL?
Clients who have had sclerotherapy rarely report any discomfort. This is because the needle that is used is extremely small and most people only sense a small scratch. There may also be a slight tingling sensation in the skin for a few seconds after the injection.
WHAT ARE THE SIDE EFFECTS OF TREATMENTS?
Minor side effects do occur in some people. Slight swelling and redness around the vein may appear soon after the injection has been given. This disappears over two or three days. Sometimes a small area of pigmentation can occur at the site of the injection but this gradually fades. The veins themselves darken as they are shrivelling before resolving.
